See what our patients have to say about us
As a long time sufferer of migraine headaches, I have tried almost every form of therapy imaginable to manage my headaches. I have seen physical therapists, neurologists, nutritionists, and several other medical professionals with only moderate improvement in pain management let alone a decrease in the frequency or severity of headaches. When I was in high school, my migraine headaches worsened. The intensity increased so much that I missed weeks of school at a time. It wasn’t until I was referred to a neuromuscular dentist by another lifelong sufferer from migraine headaches that I began to receive any relief from my symptoms. I have been under the care of a neuromuscular dentist for the past 5 years and a patient of Westchester Dental Center for the past 8 months, and I can honestly say that this treatment has changed my life. The key to the treatment that a neuromuscular dentist can provide is that it is not simply pain management; it is a solution to the pain. I know this is a bold statement to make, but I truly believe in the significance of neuromuscular dentistry in the treatment of migraine headaches and am eager to share my experiences with other migraine sufferers.
Since I was first diagnosed with migraine headaches at the age of 11, I have been under the care of a neurologist for management of my headaches. Throughout my years of treatment, my doctors had tried almost every conventional form of pain management available including medication, biofeedback, physical therapy, massage therapy, and Botox injections with little success. So, it is understandable that I was skeptical of the effectiveness of neuromuscular dentistry as a treatment for headaches. However, after a thorough examination by a neuromuscular dentist, it was determined that the root cause of most of my pain was jaw misalignment and muscle tension and fatigue. I was fit for an appliance, and within a week of receiving it I began to see a reduction in the frequency and severity of my migraine headaches. The muscles in my neck, shoulders, back, and jaw were finally able to relax for the first time since my headaches first began. My tolerance to stressors like physical activity and an increased workload at school increased dramatically. I was finally able to start exercising again, and I enrolled as a fulltime student in college which up to that point had been impossible. I finally felt comfortable planning for the future, something I was afraid to do in the past because my migraines were so frequent and unpredictable. I truly believe that without this treatment, I would not have made it through college.
I eventually transferred over to Westchester Dental Center for continued treatment due to Dr. Noto’s extensive background in neuromuscular dentistry. I am confident in my recommendation of Dr. Noto because, under his care, I have experienced a greater level of pain control and headache management than I have with any other neuromuscular dentist. Dr. Noto has designed a treatment plan that includes chiropractic therapy to better manage my headaches. I continue to see improvements in my muscle strength and a decrease in muscle tension in addition to the reduction in the frequency and severity of my migraine headaches. Dr. Noto’s extensive background in neuromuscular dentistry is the reason I started seeing him, but his honesty and accessibility are why I continue to see him for my ongoing care.
